Plans should be made early for our Homestay trips, as preparations normally require at least 14 days. However, we can process late reservations, subject to space availability.

American International Homestays, Inc. (AIH) reserves the right to cancel reservations and/or resell trip space without prior notice if full payment has not been received by due date. In this event, the regular cancellation fee (see below) will apply.
Passport
Each person must have a current passport which is valid over 30 days past the end of the trip. If you don't have one, apply for it at a Passport Office, Post Office or county clerk office. Please apply as soon as possible, as it can take up to six weeks to receive one. You must have the passport at least 30 to 60 days before departure. You may need to insist on Express Service (at your expense) when you apply.
Visa
Call AIH about visa requirements for your destinations.
Cancellation
All cancellations are charged a cancellation fee which varies depending on when your written notice reaches AIH. It is recommended that you purchase trip cancellation insurance. Cancellations must be in writing. All deposits and trip payments will be refunded in full minus the following per-person cancellation fee:
- 60 or more days before departure ------------ $125 fee
- 45 to 59 days before departure -------------- $250 fee
- 31 to 44 days before departure -------------- $500 fee
- 2 to 30 days before departure --------------- $50% of trip price
No Refund within 48 hours of departure, for no shows, or during the trip.
AIH reserves the right to withdraw any trip at any time. In all cases, AIH will make full refunds, subject to refunds by vendors; in which case AIH has no further obligation or liability for any expenses incurred by individuals such as visa, air tickets, etc.
Changes
Once you have paid a deposit and AIH has confirmed you for a specific trip, any changes must be made in writing. Changes usually involve fees or surcharges and are subject to availability. Contact AIH early for details and limitations. Changing to a different trip requires a change fee, which is equal to 50% of the regular cancellation fee, applied as noted in the schedule outlined above. AIH will retain the regular cancellation fee. However, if you participate in another AIH trip departing within 90 days of the original trip departure, one half of the cancellation fee may be credited towards the price of the new trip. Changing from an air inclusive trip to the Land-Only version of the same trip requires no fee if the change is made at least 30 days prior to departure, and a $200 fee if the change is made after that. Changing from a Land-Only trip to an air inclusive trip requires a $100 fee and depends on whether airline tickets are available for that trip
Travel and Baggage Information
After receipt of your deposit, we will send you flight and travel information, insurance information and the AIH Traveler's Handbook. This contains information about Homestays, currency, weather, clothing, packing, baggage limits and other tips to help you prepare for your trip.
Accommodations and Food
In most cases, participants will be staying in homes and/or apartments and waiting typical local fare. Standards of sleeping accommodations and meals may vary. It has been our experience that the host families go out of their way in providing accommodations and food. It has also been our experience that the quality of food and accommodations far exceeds what tourists receive by eating and staying in the usual tourist hotels and restaurants.
Health and Insurance
During your Homestay, AIH's local representatives will arrange and assist you in obtaining medical care, if needed. If payment for medical services is required, it is the traveler's responsibility, including such things as doctors' bills, hospitalization, medical evacuation, etc. Each traveler must purchase medical evacuation insurance or sign a waiver declining such coverage. Travelers in frail health are strongly advised to reconsider Homestay travel.

In making arrangements for the described trips, American International Homestays, Inc. (AIH) acts only on behalf of airlines, all other transportation providers, hotels, operators, hosts, owners, contractors or any other vendors that may provide services in connection with these trips. AIH accepts no responsibility, nor shall it be held liable for losses or expenses due to missed connections, delays or changes in itinerary, air or other services, type of transportation, cancellation, sickness, weather, strikes, civil disturbance, war, quarantine, or any other causes over which it has no control.
AIH reserves the right to refuse to accept or retain any person as a trip participant for any reason, especially should such person's health, general deportment or behavior affect impede the operation of the trip, his/her own health or well being, or the rights, welfare, or enjoyment of other participants or hosts.
